The 5 Pillars of Authority

Why Some Service Providers Thrive While Others Struggle

What Is Authority Loading?

Authority loading is a framework made up of five pillars that establish you as the go-to expert in your niche.

But before we dive into those, let’s explore why most marketing strategies you’re probably using right now aren’t working.

Why Most Marketing Fails

In his book Oversubscribed, marketing expert Daniel Priestley revealed the 7–11 Rule: potential customers typically need 7 hours of exposure to your content across 11 different interactions before they feel confident enough to buy from you.

Those aren’t random numbers. The “7 hours” comes from psychology studies—people feel like they know you after spending about 7 hours with you. The “11 interactions” are backed by Google research, showing that most people need about 11 digital touchpoints before they’re ready to make a purchase.

This explains why one-off tactics like the occasional social media post, random emails, or the odd networking event rarely turn into clients.

Here’s what most service providers don’t realize:
When clients don’t have enough information to judge your expertise, they default to comparing the one thing they can see—your price.

I’ve been there. I used to get ghosted after sending quotes or, worse, pressured to lower my rates below what was sustainable. It was exhausting.

But when you load up on authority, everything changes. Price stops being the deciding factor. Clients start focusing on the value you bring and the results you can deliver.

The 5 Pillars of Authority Loading

1. Expertise

This might seem obvious, but most of us get it wrong.

I used to keep my strategies to myself, thinking, “If I tell people how I do it, why would they hire me?”

Big mistake.

Everything shifted when I started openly sharing my knowledge—through blog posts, videos, and real advice. People would reach out saying, “I’ve been following your work for months. I already know you can help me. When can we start?”

They weren’t shopping on price anymore. They were ready.

2. Results

Anyone can claim they get results. But these days, claims aren’t enough. You need to prove it.

Show before-and-afters. Share specific numbers. Tell real stories about actual people you’ve helped.

One of my students, a new business coach, didn’t have big success stories yet. So instead, she shared her own journey—how she got her first five clients, how she built her offer, what worked and what didn’t.

That honesty resonated with people. They thought, “If she can do this for herself, she can help me too.”

3. Visibility

You can be the best at what you do—but if nobody knows you exist, it doesn’t matter.

Think about the last time you bought something just because it felt familiar. Maybe you’d seen it a few times online, heard a friend mention it, or stumbled on it during a late-night scroll.

That’s the power of visibility. It’s like compound interest—each piece of content builds on the last until people start saying, “I feel like I already know you.”

And that’s when you’ve built serious authority.

4. Social Proof

You probably checked reviews the last time you tried a new restaurant. Your clients do the same thing with you.

When I first launched my course, it sold decently. But once we added five powerful testimonials to the sales page, our next launch nearly doubled—with zero changes to the course itself.

That’s the snowball effect of social proof.
The more you have, the easier it is to get more.

5. Communication

This is the glue that holds everything together.

It’s not just what you know—it’s how clearly you explain it.

When I was starting out, I thought sounding “professional” and using technical language would impress people. Turns out, it just confused them.

What really earns trust? Making complex things simple.

When I focused on clarity, people began commenting things like, “You explain this better than anyone else,” or “I finally get it now.”

That’s what builds trust—and trust drives sales.

If you’re ready to stop chasing clients and start attracting them, authority loading is your answer.
